The evidence is mounting and cooler heads are beginning to prevail as the special interest anti-vaping forces are being exposed as alarmists and fear mongers. In response to the Public Health England study that showed that vaping is at least 95% safer than smoking in addition to the Royal College of Physicians report that smokers should switch to vaping to reduce risk, Nottingham hospitals have lifted ecig bans.

A no no in the United States, UK doctors are even going so far as to associate electronic cigarettes as a quit smoking method. This notion of putting public health interests first is certainly refreshing.  Dr. Stephen Fowlie is the medical director for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust said that “We have a duty to help our patients and staff make healthy lifestyle choices and we can’t ignore the potential benefits of electronic cigarettes as a nicotine replacement therapy. We’re now allowing ecigarettes on our grounds to give patients, staff and visitors more choice in how they quit smoking.”

In a big win for vaping advocates hospitals in Nottingham England have lifted their ban on e-cigarette usage.

This is a stark contrast to the FDA which has consciously chosen to ignore the potential benefits of electronic cigarettes in favor of lending credence to the invention of speculated harms.

Professor John Britton is the director of the UK Centre for Tobacco & Alcohol Studies as well as a respiratory consultant at NUH,  Nottingham University Hospitals. He said “Helping smokers quit is one of the most effective things that NUH can do to improve the health of our patients.

We need to encourage all patients and visitors who smoke and find it difficult to abstain while in hospital grounds to use medicinal nicotine, or an electronic cigarette. Approving the use of electronic cigarettes is an important step towards achieving completely smoke free hospitals in Nottingham.”

In favor of sticking to their stringent stance on anything considered a tobacco product including e-cigarettes and vapes the FDA has chosen to ignore the possible benefits of vaping including as an aid to help smokers quit.

While people will not be able to vape inside hospital buildings, they will be allowed to vape on hospital grounds. Smoking will not be allowed. This drives home the fact that vaping is not smoking!

We all know that health officials in the UK have been more responsive to the hard science and hard data that shows that vaping is a safer alternative to smoking. Now leading officials are going so far as recognizing electronic cigarettes as a stop smoking method. US officials are a long ways from admitting this as many of them claim that any nicotine addiction promotes smoking. Of course other nicotine replacement therapies are okay in their eyes so don’t look for logic or consistency because you won’t find it.

The news that UK hospitals are lifting vaping bans is another step forward for the recognition that these life saving products deserve.
